From the first of those reports:

There was an article in 'Canoeist' a few years back about some roughty-toughty South Georgia trip by SAS types. They paddled about three hundred yards before getting weatherbound for a month and having to eat penguins. They eventually escaped by paddling mountainous seas in an arctic gale.

The race is off...
It's official. Speaking to Sean Morley at the Anglesey symposium he said he's had to pull his expedition (4 years in the planning). He then told the gathered hoardes when he gave his slide show. No doubt it will become clear eventually why, and I don't think it would be fair for me to disgorge here, but suffice to say that sponsorship and competition seem to have made it impractical.
Have to say he seemed gutted, but he was gracious enough to wish the Pete Bray exped the best of luck.
Makes me feel uncomfortable when this aspect of commercialism edges into our sport. Sadly though it seems to be inevitable.
Sean's lecture on the British Isles trip was superb- I would urge anyone who sea paddles to try & see it. He's very knowledgeable about our waters & islands.
Great bloke too, & I for one wish him luck in his next venture.
