Snowdonia Charity Challenge

Postby gizmo » Sat May 08, 2010 8:45 pm

Hi Everyone - I and three others are currently in training for a multi activity race for charity to be held in Snowdonia in June. The event includes a 40 mile cycle through some of the mountain passes of Snowdonia, a run up and down Snowdon and some open boating on Llyn Gwynant. Regain is a charity set up to support people who become tetraplegic as a result mainly of sports activities. Please visit our Justgiving site http://www.justgiving.com/deioaledgethinapaul and if you feel the urge please throw some cash our way. Seriously, any and all donations will be most gratefully received. Remember to add UKRGB to your name if you donate so that I can thank you all.
Thanks Paul

............And there was me, feeling sorry for myself having developed a spot of arthritis in my big toe! Your chosen charity rather puts such minor inconveniences into context.

Good luck to you all!

Thanks Rich. A couple of us had a go at the cycle part of the challenge today. All went well but despite wearing cycling shorts I think I've worn a hole through my nether regions. Now I know why cyclists have that pained expression and I'm walking like a lady of ill repute.

Hi Paul,

I'm sure a generous application of that stuff you use to lube your dry suit zip will help ??

Just a quick update on our event. 42 teams competed in this year's Snowdonia Charity Challenge and we managed to come in first with a time of 5 hours and 46 minutes. Difficult to compare our time to previous years as the canoe course was significantly longer and there was a stiff breeze to contend with both on the lake and on the hills. We did manage to come in about 32 minutes ahead of our nearest competitors so we are quite pleased overall. This was a really enjoyable event and the teams were hugely supportive of each other and we were all carried along on a wave of good wishes. It was an inspiratioin to see one guy who was tetraplegic himself complete part of the course. He managed to get himself around a 20 mile section of the cycling event on an adapted cycle using only his shoulders. He and his team then managed to pedal, carry and lift themselves up Snowdon on another adapted chair and he then managed a section of the canoeing course. Puts it all in perspective and reinforces the value of this charity. Thanks to all who supported us in this challenge and it is still possible for anyone to donate by using our justgiving page at the top of this thread.
