Canvassing for canvas !^

Postby mikeybarvas » Wed Apr 11, 2012 9:20 am

We are having problems sourcing canvas or similar material for our St kilda 47 years again ? project,we need enough to cover the clyde double we are building and I was hoping someone out there who knows someone who knows someone etc.... may be able to point us in the right direction or you may have some stuff in the shed from an old project you didnt get round to. My contact number is 07887727014 , we need this fairly soon as we are attempting the crossing in June !
thanks Mike

Hi Mike, my pal David recently got his 1960 Tyne folding double recovered. I'll find out where he got the canvas.

I can't help, but had a surge of nostalgia when you mentioned a Clyde double. First kayak I ever paddled! (Youth Hostels holiday, Rowardennan, mid-60s.) Photos when it's done, please!

Douglas is right, look into folding boats as a likely source. Wayland (Poland) have a UK distributor in Reading, and Wayland make replacement skins for other folders, so it might be worth asking.
