I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Bray and looking over his trans-Atlantic kayak at the show on Sunday. I was absolutely staggered seeing the boat; okay, it isn't exactly a sleek Nordkapp, but the idea of spending a day, let alone months in that sorry excuse for a floating coffin appalled me. Really made me appreciate what the fellow went through and achieved. Amazing.

Re: Peter Bray
"Amazing"...
It certainly was. Why on Earth would anyone want to paddle across the Atlantic, when there's a multitude of flights available every day? ;) Flying MUST be cheaper!!!

Re: Peter Bray
I saw the boat at Perth last year but didn't get round to speaking to Peter. It is of course a fantastic feat but he's far from alone in the solo atlantic crossings stakes, although probably the first kayak, and almost certainly the best equipped.
I met Tom McClean a few years ago, the man who has rowed it solo far too many times, and also sailed it solo in the smallest boat. The sailing record was beaten so he took a chainsaw to his boat and did it again.... one of the worlds true nutters, but a fantastic bloke! Not sure if he has a current project but he started doing it with a theme, he's crossed in a whale and a bottle.....
I think I would rather do the crossing in Peter's boat than any of Tom's, although when it comes to the crunch I really would much rather take a 747!
