Hi
Does anyone know if Brean beach is any good for first time kayak surfers?, Liking the idea of being able to drive on beach and offload etc, (obviously not parking to close). One of closest beaches to me so would be ideal.
Thanks
Dean

Re: Surfing at Brean
never seen much in the way of good surf when I've been there (nice for flying kites though). If you're close to Brean you're only 1.5 hrs to Devon and fantastic surf beaches though.

Thanks Strad
I'm in Wiltshire and willing to travel about 80 miles, suggest anywhere worth trying in Devon/Dorset.
Thanks

I live just North of Brizzle and tend to push the distance a little so I can to get to Saunton / Croyde /Woolie, in my opinion worth the extra drive - the surf is nice along that stretch of coast (but also note I have wife who surfs and kids / dog that like to dig on the beach while wife and I time share the surfing - so a good beach is essential for us). Downside is that they do get crowded sometimes in summer.
We leave early to avoid traffic around brizzle / north somerset (leave between 7 - 7.30 and we get to the beach at 9ish) and stay late to do it as a day trip.

Bean is definitely not a great surf beach. North Devon is great, especially places like mid beach Woolacombe or Saunton where you can get some space.
Another alternative from Wiltshire is Porthcawl in S. Wales, probably a little quicker to get to and can have great waves although arguably not as picturesque and a little smaller especially when the tide is in.

Agreed Porthcawl can be a quick trip - avoid heading this way at times when there may be lots of traffic around Cardiff area (big rugby matches etc) as the Cardiff section of M4 gets snarled up, other then that it's nice.

Thanks guys,
Never been to Woolacombe and only ever heard nice things about it, so I think a trip is in order there first ;o)

There's a few good surf beaches in this area closer than Porthcawl. Rest is great but it gets super busy.
Aberavon is not much further on and is excellent on the right day.
Southerndown too and not forgetting Llantwit Major for those that like their surf breaks with rocks...
