Nomad found on the Kinglas Scotland

Postby davidmaltby » Mon Sep 12, 2011 8:50 pm

Myself and Dom found a Dagger Nomad on the kinglass today. It was pinned in a strainer below the hard rapid with the diagonal ledge that leads into a narrow fast bit. We have removed it from the river, it has a few scrapes, a slightly bent front grab-handle and a little bit of oilcanning that should pop out when warm. overall its still solid and comes complete with throwbag and airbags.

If the boat was yours it is now in Edinburgh, and im sure we can find space on a roof to get it up to wet west. All you need to do is tell me what colour it is and what sort of throwbag was in it and we will happily exchange for a crate of nice beer or 2... it was after all a very strenuous rescue! :-)

We would also like to know the person who came out it was ok. I dont know if it was lost today or over the weekend...from the amound of silt in it id imagine the latter. But if it was exited in somthing similar to todays levels a swim would have been unpleasant to say the least. What concerned us more was there was also one of the new palm gradient boots floating in an eddy nearby and I doubt they come off easily. We actually elected to leave the river were we found the boat anyway as it was very high and rising, trees were becoming an issue, as was lack of eddys and neither of us knew the river so we/I was rather concerned about paddling something nasty unintentionally and ending up with my shoe floating in an eddy.

Although id have to add...the top section is a brillaint run at that level, pushy continous 4 for a few K with a few holes with propper bite. but all read and run.

Anyway a long post...but if you were part of the group/know what happened please update us as to how the swimmer was/give us a good story, we were both quite concerned as to their fate....

Gareth Thomas from Llanwrst in Wales. I've let him know you have it! Its a Green Nomad 8.5. Looks like this one... http://www.vimeo.com/28680818

The throwbags a palm 18 or 20 meter one. The boat might have 661 elbow pads in the back? He sounds very happy that you found it and sounds okay from the swim!

He said he did the river in high water and took a swim.

HI David,
The boat is mine, it's a Green Nomad 8.5 which we lost on the Kinglas on Saturday. The river level rose really fast which made things a bit more interesting and I took a swim. Im ok, few bumps and bruises but all in one piece, the boat was going so fast that I don't think anybody fancied chasing it down 4+/5. I walked down stream to the tunnel but couldn't see it anywhere and we checked the loch at the bottom. The throwbag should be a 18/20m palm throwline and as Ieuan mentioned, there should be some elbow guards shoved in the back (hopefully). The boot isn't mine, although I did lose one, which was a karrimore sandal.
Thanks very much for rescuing it, I owe you guys. I might be heading to wet west but if not Ieuan is so should be able to sort something out. And lastly, what kind of beer do you like? :D

The boat never made it as far as the tunnel. It was pinned quite close to the top of the gorge. Tho you would have been very unlikely to see it from most of the bank...it was below an almost overhanging cliff right at the base. actually made for a rather interesting retrevial as we had to absail of a tree to reach it.

Let me know if youll be up at wet west or if not sho I should pass it onto...ill be up fri/sat/sun.

As for beer I really dont mind, but tenants is banned.
