Sporting Injuries

I’m sure a number of you out there participate in the usual sporting activities such as hiking, climbing, MTB etc etc and I wonder if you can advise from any past experience of ankle injuries and how best / what best to brace it with.
I have very recently broken a bone in my ankle (not a major ankle break needing surgery and pins) and torn the ligaments so have had the usual advise from A&E, no need to stookie and the more you use it the quicker it’ll get better, anyway I’m off to the Alps very soon and I don’t just want to go sightseeing if you know what I mean.

Who can advise of a very good tried and tested ankle brace that’ll keep my ankle in good shape for some long hikes.

P.S. By the time I get on the Alps the break will be 4 weeks old and they gave me an estimated heal time of 6 to 8 weeks, so as you can appreciate, it’s still swollen, black and blue and sore.

My OH had lateral ligament reconstruction a couple of years ago. The only decent way to protect it is to strap it up with 3" tape. It is like wearing your tendons on the outside. He puts on a stirrup of tape going from knee to knee under the heel, then builds it up to spread the support. Trial and error tells you the best way to strap your ankle for you. He has a bolt through tib and fib too. Then he uses a 661 ankle shield under his canyoneers to protect the metal work.

He did try various ankle supports but found them massively uncomfortable and lacking in support compared to the tape.

Just read that your break is new. Seriously dude, don't do it. My OH was off adventure sports for months as any knock could have put him back to square 1 or lead to further ops. The rivers will still be there.

I had similar many years ago and it took about 3 months to get to the point where I could run on it. Also consider that your holiday insurance would not be valid if you don't declare the break and / or get injured.
