Gorilla Tape - The best of the Gaffas?

Postby Scumbag_Scout » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:57 pm

I read a comparison review of some gaffa tapes the other day and they rated Gorilla Tape the best for strength and waterproof. I've had some on as a temporary repair to my boat and even after 2 surf sessions, a load of rain and a Hurley session the tape is still totally attached, very impressed. Certainly the best Gaffa tape I've used.

Got to agree with you on this one, best tape I've ever used!

I also agree. The stuff is exceptionally good and seems to be able to grip on really difficult surfaces too.

If you want a better tape you could use "Pro Clima" tape. It is used in the building industry to seal joints to make the building airtight. It is incredibly sticky and so I would not use it if you want to take it off again. Also it is none too cheap so it won't catch on in the paddling world!

Hey Dave - which Pro Clima tape do you use - there appear to be a number of options:

Has anyone used "Jaffa" tape?

It depends what you are sticking and it will go off topic and get deleted if I reply in full ... but for kayak applications Tescon No1would be the best as it is flexible Tescon profil is more expensive because of the split backing paper ....

I was with a group last week and we put a sea kayak back together with it. It was used to seal some splits in the hull and to seal the skeg as the skeg box got knocked out in a 'sideways onto rock incident'. Very effective over the following 70km or so. I will be buying some....

Yep, extra geek points to me, but the last Gaffa I used came off my boat after two rides and didn't want to waste my money! ;-)
