So the eternalquestion of how you get your non kayaking partners tolet you go boating, Saving up those points is all well and good but special occasions do over rule.

For instance The great Wet west paddlefest falls earlierthan normal this year and now collids with my partners birthday.

What excuses do you use to get out in the boat on these days.orworseaway for the few days around the occassion.

Or do we cut our losses and become single.

Find an occasion she would like to goto for her birthday ie concert, theatre or something of that nature, book a ticket before or after WWPF and tell her that your going to spoil her on that day instead! if you make it before WWPF the brownie points that are banked will still be redeemable for that weekend...

These are not the droids your looking for!!!

It goes like this....

1. Boys need hobbies...
2. If I was playing Rugby I would be at training twice a week and then out all day sat...
3. Lets go with other families and the kids can play together...
4. Lets go somewhere sunny and I can paddle a bit...
5.... would your preferred if I started drinking??

I think I had the right idea from the start ;-) my other half paddles at the same level as me. Holidays are to paddling places like Nepal, Alps, Norway... I get gucci kit for Christmas & birthdays (got a Werner Sho-Gun for Xmas this year) No complaints about numbers of boats or glopping kit in the house. Sweet.

Yeah it's easy - just be gay and you will have a huge amount of beefacake partners who paddle well to choose from... they are going to want to come on all your adventures. Dress them up like ladies as well if you want... plus they come in rubber as standard....

No way I want my partner to come on all my paddling trips - I go on them to escape my wife!! Don't get me worn I luv her and have lots of thing we do in common - but for gawds sack I don't want to have to drag her along on adventure sports - I don't want to bike bluse trails , ski red and paddle grade 3 all my life - if I'm doing it I want to do it as hard as I can.

At my age it's quite simple really - It's cheaper than a lot of other hobbies I've had in the past, I don't go out drinking and she quite likes the fact that I'm actually getting off my @rse and doing something sort of physical

Dude, I am a girl and my OH is a beefcake guy (Erik is my dog) haha! I can see your point about not wanting to anything tame... but not all girlies are tame :-)

Been trying to get Broc to dress as a girl for ages but he won't have it.
Which is a shame cos he would make a very pretty little girl.

My gf thinks me paddling is hot, so is pretty happy for me to bugger off. It is slightly weird she prefers Evan Garcia to Johnny Depp/etc though...

I quite like the fact she hasn't really taken to paddling herself though. She skis to a very high level (as you'd expect being Austrian) so we get plenty of adventuring done together, but it's also good to have something to do with just my mates.

Just man up and put your foot down. What's she going to do, - leave you for having a healthy, active hobby?

I spent far too long pussy footing around trying to please everyone my paddling affected. Be fair to the family by your own standards so you can look yourself in the mirror and then just go when you want to*.

As an observation, folks I see who's partners give them shit for paddling - is generally because their partners don't have an interest/hobby/passion of their own.

* proof to back up that this works... Bank hol here and I'm off to LWS for 5/6 days tonight. Sweeeeeeet!!

I am a paddling female. I grew up in paddling family as in both parents in boats. Life was spent next to the water, two choices do it or get left behind.

Personally I dont have this issue as my partner also paddles.

However - if the "better half" does not have a hobby of their own to fill their time...... are they an interesting person?

Simple solution - date a boater then this isnt an issue is it? Or in the alternative - grow a pair!

Maybe buy her a fancy SLR and give purpose to her day next to the river...... plus you'll get some cracking bankside photos!!!
Clearly a womoan with no brain - or second boat

Tried it... failed. Took me ages to work up the bottle for the top drop on the Egua (man up... it's actually quite easy), but she was still chatting and missed the photo.

You could still go paddling if you booked in to a fab hotel in the area then got her a day of spar treatments (or whatever else she likes) then you go boating, then take her out for and amazing dinner. Boating only takes a few hours after all.

Personally I just went boating and ended up divorced. I took a girlfriend to North Wales for a birthday weekend and then legged off with me mates kayaking because there where epic amount of water. Didnt go down to well, I tell thee that for no charge. In fact she disappeared in van thaught I was gunna have to walk back to bristol. Whats more in portant possibly her birthday on balance.Good luck with that mate.

This could work, but why not just go paddle the Moriston some other time when it's not so crowded?

wet west paddlefest is about the atmosphere not just the river, I have paddled them both numorous times but never had as much fun on them as at that weekend, my solution is totake her to creamfields (which she really wants to) the weekend before and then a day paragliding, then drop her and her friends off in glasgow for a girly weekend.

Problem solved. And she still doesnt know about the alternative motives
