free to paddle??

Postby Frogger » Fri Apr 27, 2012 9:29 pm

I thought most people on here advocated open paddling and discussions. Seems not!

The Facebook group "UK Canoe" is closed group and seems to be the sole administration of one Simon Morse. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/411320855550752/)

He clearly doesn't believe in sport for all! (but then I knew that)

This thread is quite blatant harassment of myself, can it please be removed. Thanks.

LOL Hardly so (unless you're admitting to harassment on other forums/pages)

As far as I'm concerned it's his Facebook page so it's his rules, and nothing to do with me or indeed you Frogger. Unless, of course, he's using it to libel others, which I have absolutely no reason to believe he might be. If it were titled "Morsey's paddling gang" would you think it should be open to all? Maybe it is just that, and he has paddling friends all over the UK? I don't see it as anything to worry about. A none thread, if ever I've seen one. It does make me wonder about your motives, though.

And before you suggest it, I have never met him and couldn't pick him out of a group of two with anything more than 50% certainty.

I dont fish, I paddle (in the UK) and the site is called 'Canoe UK' not Morseys chums.

and YES I would suspect him of libel (but that's a case for the courts)

It's not really a case for the courts though is it Mr Frogger? First you need to prove and defaming comments are false, so without access to the group you can't prove anything. Secondly a closed group would probably not be thought of as public. You will need to prove that you have been harmed and with the reputation you have got yourself here, it's unlikely that anyone would think any less of you. And theres always the defence of mere vulgar abuse, which allows us to call you a 'massive tit' and as an insult holds no intention to be taken literally and won't harm you. If you want to know any more reasons why you wouldn't suceed PM me and I'll reel off the rest of the list such as opinion and fact being different thing etc etc. Just jump back into the pond and eat some flies. Happy Paddling!

*runs to fetch a load of handbags as they'll probably be needed...* (sorry couldn't resist)

In relation to the OP, people can create a group on the internet and let anyone - or not - into it. Just because they call it "UK Canoe" doesn't mean anything or suggest anything. Now if this page was called "Canoe England" then maybe it should be more open but its not so it doesn't need to be.

Frogger, I think you need to get out more to be honest.

With a rise of internet trolling more people feel the need to make facebook groups 'closed'. It's very simple to request to join, and in no way insinuates exclusive membership, just higher security.

Frogger, you obviously have some personal vendetta against Morsey that you have tried to play out on here. It's obvious to me (and I practically never pick up on such things) that all it has achieved is for you to have lost the respect of everyone else on here. Can I suggest that you accept that you've made a mistake, say "sorry, people" and contact Mark R and ask him to remove this thread. Then you can go about making intelligent posts that will repair your damaged reputation on here. And remember this: we've almost all of us made a tit of ourselves at one point or another, it's just how we handle it afterwards that lets us be friendly again!

This reminds me of real life, I think many people are modelling themselves on politicians and business tycoons. I ask, should people show each other respect ?, tomorrow generation learns from us. This is my opinion.
