ZPro Tango 200 or the New Sevylor Colorado Premium

Postby lozza » Fri Apr 27, 2012 8:46 am

Hi there, after making a quick not researched purchase of the Sevylor Canyon which had a leaking issue it has now gone back for a refund and I'm now looking for something better.

Doing research and reading peoples feedback I basically had chosen the Zpro Tango 200 over the normal Colorado but just as I was going to make the purchase Sevylor have brought out a new Colorado Premium which seems to have altered the reasons why I chose the Zpro Tango 200 over the Colorado. The reasons were mainly the hudson valves allround on the zpro/higher denier material and spray decks. Now the new Colorado premium has a single inflation point, with being able to use a pressure gauge during inflation which does appeal to me. It also comes with front and back spray covers and looks alot better overall. Can't find anywhere what the newer denier standard is so not sure on that respect. I do have a slight concern with the single inflation point, does this mean that in the case of a puncture in one tube all 3 tubes will be affected or does the inflation system seal all 3 tubes indepently??

Has anyone out there got the new Colorado? I know its pretty new but cant see many end user reviews.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks Chris

Which section would you suggest?, a search of previous inflatable discussions were from this section. The Canoe section states ( One Blade Only) so didnt feel it fit that desciption.

Sorry didn't realise you had to be part of a certain category to post on here. I've already posted on Song of the Paddle so hopefully get some advice on there.

You don't have to be its just that this is predominantly a whitewater kayaking forum so not much collective knowledge about inflatables :)

Depends on yur preference and budget. I have not tried the Zpro but have a standard colorado which is good for upto grade 3. The premium looks nice but I don't see how they justify an extra £100.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the advice on the Colorado. I was set on the Zpro over the older Colorado, But something is just niggling me that the premium might match the Zpro and have some extra pro's i.e with the new inflation system. I'm new to the this sport but correct if im wrong, some of these inflatable Kayaks are rated upto grade 3 rivers, does that not mean they are used on whitewater runs??

Thanks

Yes inflatables are used on whitewater runs. As I said it depends on budget and use. NRS are built to the same standard as rafts and can do virtually anything a standard kayak can but they cost £1000 +, The colorado is Ok up to grade 3 but really you need the rivers higher than for a plastic canoe as they may puncture so you need to be more careful. The main problem with inflatables at this price level is nothing to hold you in so you cannot roll them. Others have strap systems which give more control. I normally paddle plastic kayaks but bought an inflatable to be able to put in the car mainly for lakes but it is also there if I go away and the levels come up unexpectedly. As you said the premium colorado looks nicer but it is much more expensive. Don't think that it will make much difference as it is easy to inflate anyway. The covered ends may be of use but if you do grade 3 in an open boat youwill be wet anyway. The nylon skin over tubes makes them a pain to dry out so if its not used regulary then ensure it is dry before putting it away.
