So there's another suggestion - have a chat with potential assessors and ask what they think. Some will be big open boat fans and will consider open boating an important part of L2. Others will recognise that you are a kayaker who wants to teach other kayakers, and won't be so fussed about your open boat skills.

Do any names spring to mind? I don't see how proficiency in poling and sailing OC has any benefit to teaching OC at 2 Star level.

eh? Who mentioned poling and sailing?????

I would answer your question by saying that the greater your knowledge of how to move a canoe around, understanding things like 'trim' and such like will make teaching both canoe and kayak much more effective and relevent. I say this as a kayaker who took up canoeing relatively recently and saw my kayak skills improve as a result!

It's in the 3 Star OC syllabus. Don't get me wrong; I'm all for doing OC stuff; it does have cross-discipline benefits and is kinda fun in its own right. AFAIC I just need to be good enough to "teach/assess 2 Star" as opposed to having the full 3 Star OC skillset.

A L2 type game or coaching scenario may be to get open boaters to stand up and pole, to coach a fundamental skill etc.

You have to demonstrate the 3 star skill set for both disciplines. Separate out what L2 Assessment is with what an L2 can assess.
