Getting all NZ

Postby steveparry » Sat Apr 21, 2012 2:57 pm

Hey

I'm off to teach (surf, boat, mountain bike, eat seafood, drink wine) in NZ for a year or two and due to astronomical shipping costs have decided not to ship my beloved medium Burn across.

I'm going to go native and buy a Mystic when I arrive in July. Any experience as to how it will feel compared to the Burn? It seems to be quite similar?

Cheers

No, they are no similarities between the Burn and the Mystic. I paddled one of the original (older) Burns, and I changed it to the Mystic. Ok at the time, the new Mamba/Raptor/Shiva/Stomper weren't available to demo at the time, but apart from that I did demo just about every other boat. But for me, I got on better with the Mystic, better than any other boat I have paddled. Back to the original question, the Burn is a planning hull with sharp edges, the Mystic, is a displaced hull boat. It is much rounder, with soft edges. Still more than enough to get in to eddies with out the feeling of skidding in to them, but no where near as sharp as the Burns. And as such do paddle differently. For me, moving to the Mystic has been a revelation. It is comfy, it works, its faster, and I like how it handles and performs.
The more apparently complex an act, the more vital it is to search until you find its inner simplicity
