Patack gate code
does anybody know the current gate code for the pattack barrier I am heading up there on Thursday and we are planning on paddling it if we find the code somewhere to prevent the painful walk up.

Ask at the estate office.

Even if there is water you shouldn't park cars at the top so at least one of you will still have to walk up.
At the gate house there is a small notice on it with two numbers. One for the estate office and the other for an outdoor adventure company. Both will give you the gate code if you phone them.
As mentioned above. Good luck with water.

Make sure you call them on a weekday, no one answered on either number last time we tried on a weekend.
Alternatively, man up and walk! :)

We found that if you stick the bonnet of your car under the barrier it magically opens. This was a few years ago, so don't know if that will still work!
Done any NE/NW rivers not on the site? PM me!

We are the first people rightly to complain about bad behaviour from other river users, last time we paddle the Patack we were given a lot of respect and help from the estate office. Sharing the code and driving under the barrier will get you onto the river, but this underminds the long term access of a privately maintain road for your fellow paddlers. This is my opinion.

Blackgold, they give out to code to anyone who asks, so doubt they are that bothered...

The gate was originally put in when Monarch of the Glen was filmed there - they don't have to worry about Richard Briers being run over anymore...

Tried it last time without success. With 2 different cars as well as about 20 people jumping up and down on the pressure plate...

Re: Patack gate code
We ran the Patack last Friday morning, 06th. April, having first stopped at the estate office to ask for the barrier code and found the staff and residents of the estate we came into contact with very pleasant and helpful.
We all chaged in the bottom car park, took the boats up on the cars, returning the cars to the bottom car park again, taking only one car back to the top with the drivers.
No hassel, very helpful and pleasant estate staff and residents and a smashing morning on the water on a beautiful river that I had not paddled before.
Can I suggest that you do the same as we did.
Peter
P.S. There is a tree down across the river about 100 yard down from the get in. We were able to carefully sneek under it river right one at a time at that level but you may need to portage round it, the rest of the river was clear. Have fun, we did.

Indeed we had a similar experience.
When there are people that are so nice and helpful about it I feel it's quite rude to start trying work arounds like the car nose under the gate etc. Just go and spend a moment on the phone to them or speak to them, they will give you the code, and be happy to let you go up, but doing things trying to get around that is only likely to make them less pleasant and accommodating to everyone.

Re: Patack gate code
From vague memory, when we were up there we'd already tried contacting the estate, but nobody was at home. I seem to remember the other driver being in the middle of a turning manouver as we were about to leave which resulted in the bonnet going under the gate and the discovery of this trick.
