Potential use for boat repair?

Postby enb » Wed Apr 18, 2012 3:56 pm

I've just taken delivery of one of these at work and it got me thinking of the potential use in aiding repairs on boats, ie cockpit repairs when they split, even splits in the hull might be possible to add strength to the repair before plastic welding.
What are peoples thoughts?

I had a little play about with it on part of an air filter housing with a split down it and it feels pretty solid.

Does any one else think it could be used to fix broken outfitting?

I think if a modified system was available then it could work. Though hull's would be a-lot thicker than the plastic fittings shown in the video?

I would say if it could get deep enough without damaging the structure of the plastic around it and along the crack a lot more it could offer a fairly decent seal.

Would need a good test though!

I've seen similar thing done with multiple heatguns, chicken wire and a wine bottle (as a roller); this could be a very useful tool.
