So.. I've heard a lot about these courses over the past year.
Apparently they have been run each year around the Fort William area.
I have sent emails to all sorts of people, made a variety of phone calls, and got absolutely nowhere,
Even the BCU did not know what BCU student safety was.
A quick google revealed a couple of pages e.g. this one from last year http://www.canoe-england.org.uk/news/bc ... fety-camps and this one from the year previously http://www.bucs.org.uk/news.asp?itemid= ... +from+BUCS
It would seem that Tom Parker organizes this (perhaps he could advise), and that a lot of coaches I am aware of help out.
So.. my question is.. does anyone know if/when this is happening this year?/bonus question why do the BCU not know about a course branded with their name?
Cheers
Tom

Re: BCU student safety 2012... Happening?
Hey :)
I went to the Course last September at PYB, and quite frankly thought it was fantastic. You get 2 days of top quality coaching, and a lot of very interesting seminars where you find out many things you would never have known (Who knew it was Illegal to carry alcohol on a minibus when it is going to a Sporting Fixture? Not me, until I went to student safety).
Last year it only ended up costing £30 for the 2 days (although our AU was awesome and funding 6 places), which is probably the best value for money course you can ever hope for. Thanks to the coaches on the course I am now a much better paddler! Generally over the weekend I saw everyone learn something regardless of what level paddler they were going into it, it really is a course that caters for all :)
From what I understand courses have previously run in Scotland, but not been well attended, and at this stage you could probably assume a Scotland course isn't running, and I'd definitely ask your AU president for funding if the September course is running, or just go- you won't get such good coaching for less.
It was a brilliant weekend, I have reccomended it to the committee following ours, and I would reccomend it to anyone from any other Uni- I couldn't believe it wasn't more well attended!!

The October 2011 Student Safety event was put together by Spike at PyB. He would probably be the one to contact about the Easter courses.

Ahem. Rumours of the Scotland courses' demise have been greatly exaggerated...
It's happening on the 7-8th April based in Fort William. Contact me on tom@tomparkercoaching.co.uk for details...
Take it easy,
Tom

As a point of interest if there is no water these two should be the biggest and best Falls of Lora days of the year.
