Connect 30 vs Rapid

Postby GJH » Thu Mar 01, 2012 8:10 pm

I have been looking at the difference between the two main specs of Pyrahna boats, connect and rapid, last year I tried a Varun (connect 30) and Molan (rapid), after getting out of the Molan I was left with a feeling that the only thing it lacked was a ratched backband, something that can be picked up for less than £50. I know the connect 30 comes with extra padding on the thighs and seat as well but if I need that ill just cut up a old sleeping mat same as anybody else.
It just left me wondering what is it about the change from connect 30 to rapid spec that resulted in the massive drop in price for the Molan?
And it was all going so well...

Hi

Can't answer your question but , I bought a Karnali that came with the rapid spec last year , after useing it a couple of times and fitting some padding at the hips ( that came spare with the wifes dagger ) and a bit on the footrest I thought I'd find out about the connect 30 setup. Got told by Pyranha that for the back rest , a different footrest and some padding basicaly plus fitting it would cost me about 200 quid - it's still running with the padding I put in .

Decided on a large molan and had the same choice, I ended up buying a ex demo connect 30 for the same price as a new rapid spec because it was close and available, plus as much as padding can be added along with a good backband, an adjustable seat is a little more difficult to sort out.
I'd have been very happy with the rapid spec though, its comfy enough even before foam application, but I thought that if I had the foam out I may as well go for the club spec and save another ton and lose the security bar, although according to brookbank Pyranha aren't due to make any any time soon...

You dont have to spend a fortune to get a higher spec ratchet backband to make it a connect version....I do it to all of my lower spec boats....Buy the Riot type Ratchets and ratchet strip from Brookbank, an old or cheap- new strap to wrap around the backrest and be fixed onto the Ratchet strap, and then make a loop on the seat bolt fixing, to thread and support the strap going to the ratchet strap. Bolt the ratchet to the thigh grips and there you have it....at the fraction of the cost of buying the same stuff fron the manufacturer......pics available

How is the C30 seat adjustable? if its a height thing then you can just use a block of foam, plus how often do you adjust your seat? once the boat is all padded out I only really touch the ratchets to tighten my back band up.
And it was all going so well...

Forward and backward I believe, helps with trim....
