Something You Wish Existed?
Morning all,
I wont bore you with the details as to why this question exists - But I am aware that there couldn't be a better bunch of guys to ask....
Is there an item or service you wish existed? Something that would make paddling easier, safer or more accessible?
Another way of looking at it would be - what do you find to be an utter ball ache - and how could it be fixed?
Ill also say that while paddling stuff would be a preference, id love to hear any general outdoor kit ideas.
Cheers
George.

A kayak seat or outfitting that had a built in peli case compartment underneath.
This would make access to cameras and kit or other stuff like wallet or snacks quicker without having to wrestle it out of the back of your boat and past the backband, or boalting out your BA.

I'll second that. Getting kit in and out of the back of boats can be a pain. The fluid solo expedition model was a good idea.

Some kind of universal mounting point the could be built into the back deck of river or sea kayaks the will take a vertial pole kit from the maunfacturer for mounting cameras, navigation lights or hi viz flags.
The oversholder shots are gaining in popularity, they are also useful fo some video demonstrations.
It would help on thouse whos DIY skills do not run to this kind of project or are worried about wrecking thier boats building thier own systems.

Bliss Stick do! Well, not underneath, but in the boat.

A better way of securing a happy seat. webbing and clips, rather than velcro or that fiddly string.

How about a shoulder harness to help spread the weight of the boat and kit and make it easier to carry.

Yep, nicely holds up to a 1300 case in the elastic ties.
I'd like paddle clothing with anti-smell capability!

A nice Grade 2 to 3 white water river in the South East of England. OK, not so easy, unless we take out all the Thames locks and chuck some large rubble in it...
Ready to go tie downs for the front and rear of any car that don't involve crawling around underneath every time, or putting loops under your bonnet...most of us with open canoes simply botch something up.

How about a small oxygen lung with a breather tube that could fit to the back of your helmet and would give you a couple of minutes air when your upside down.

Hi
Try looking at the skwoosh seat pads , they've got gel packs under your backside , I know there comfortable ( I've got an ex-treme performance one ) but they should take some of the impact out as well.

A creek boat made out of super space age material thats half the weight of current boats and stronger... surely we can come up with something lighter and stronger than plastic.

Re: Something You Wish Existed?
Much of the institute's work is focused on making innovative composites of organic and inorganic compounds. The institute's Holy Grail, it seems, is two-fold. Firstly to coax raw materials into assembling themselves into microscopic structures which can repair itself on command and secondly to develop advanced materials capable of changing shape according to requirements - such as an aeroplane wings.
The possibilities in terms of kayak design then might include a kayak that self-repairs and can change itself depending on the prevalent water conditions (a fattening of the hull, perhaps, when the water gets choppy? Or a boat that can stretch from white water to tourer depending on whether its in fresh or saltwater?).
Hmmm...
