Hi Everyone
I've got a few days off coming up and there's not really any water around :( Plus it's hot and sunny :) So I thought I might try some gorge walking :)
I've recently moved to Castle Douglas, so does anyone know of any venues in Dumfries and Galloway? There's plenty of burns so I'm figuring there must be something to have a mess around in.
Cheers
Ben

Re: Gorge walking in Dumfries and Galloway
There's still enough water in the Nith to be worth running, just. Paddle from the picnic site at the public wc near Mennock on the A76 down to Drumlanrig Castle bridge. See the guide on here ( I don't know how to do a link to the relevant page) It's rockier and more technical at the moment (about 1 foot on SEPA and the gauge at the get out bridge) than it is at higher levels. There should only be one scrapey bit where a couple of houses sit on the left bank. Cheers, M

Head over to Newton Stewart and as far as you can drive up Glen Trool. There's a decent gorge and waterfalls on the Buchan Burn just further along a bit. When you find the big triple fall (10m / 8m / 6m), can you find out if the plungepool on the top one is deep enough?! Thanks! :-)
There's also possibilities on the Palnure Burn near the A712 and the Grey Mare's Tail Burn that joins it (a couple of low volume slides and drops). I don't know of any 'commercial' canyons.
