Pictures Wanted - Rainchasers 2010 Calendar

Postby Poke on Wed Oct 28, 2009 10:10 pm

Hi all.

Just been having a chat with ned from Rainchasers and he's keen to get things underway for a UK Boating 2010 calendar. They did one in 2008 - as a download and print yourself version. That's also the plan for this year, but if anyone has any good calendar print shop suggestions lets hear them!

Anyways, He's looking for pics and instead of taking them all from his own collection, he's keen to get the best that anyone here can offer! Any discipline really, whitewater, sea, touring, club paddling, even the competitive disciplines if they're good ones. Only requisites are that they are in a Portrait format, taken in the UK and have a reasonably consistent contrast at the bottom of the picture so that the calendar grid can go over it and still be legible (see some of the examples linked above).

So, if you want to be the Miss (or Mister) March next year lets see your best efforts below!

Anyone who gets their pic chosen gets a free copy of the calendar*.

I'm off to scour my collection, but here's a few entries from me to kick things off:

Determination on the Tees:

Gurning on the Allt Cam whatsitnot:

Beardies on the Force Falls

* downloaded, like everyone else.

Sounds good. I'd imagine there has to be a minimum size for the pictures is there? Alot of mine are Flickr'd so quite small dimensions.

Look forward to the entries

Nah, Ned said that it didn't really matter what resolution they were, lets just get some great pics. Obviously if they're way too small and it would be noticeable on the finished product they might have to be rejected, but post any suggestions you have (I jsut want to see some good boating pics) and we can sort the technical stuff later!

If anyone doesn't have any online, PM me and I'll find the Rainchasers e-mail address to send them to.

Cool. Dimension size is more the problem. Could always stick a border around them though, bumf them up a bit. Not of good calibre anyway. I'd imagine Mini Burne will have a few crackers from Cali!

Aye, I imagine that he does, but that'd be a bit unfair, not being taken in the UK and all! :-)
Dimensions need not be a problem. can crop them to portrait so long as they're not too low res!
Quite like the spray on that one of a Nomad you've put up.

I like this one for spray, shame the paddler isn't captured so well though, might pop it through PS, but can't be bothered!

What about loading the calendar up onto a digital printing service site like Moo.com or photobox etc? Then people could order a professionally printed version for next to nothing?

Not mine - but I love this shot of bambino on Conway falls.

Despite accidentally changing all the settings on the misters camera, this one turned out alright.

Poke, Ned and anyone else watching.

The company I work for, (a digital print company) can make spiral bound calendars.

If there is enough interest and enough good photos, maybe we could make a deal.

(Deal being me on the front or a small discount)

Offer is there.

It is surprisingly difficult to fine good portrait kayaking shots. But here's a few.

Box that pic is stunning! Have you been playing with the saturation though to get that effect?

Trouble with canoes is they usually fit better into a landscape format. Maybe I'm not going steep enough!

Can't remember who the paddler is, but the photographer was Jon Wright (yonfan).

I still haven't managed to take anything quite as embarrassing of him but I came close on the Pattack the other day, I'll try and find some webspace to upload and link it later on :-)

No. That's the photo I took. No photoshopping, cropping or anything. Local framing shop likes it too.

Yes. Was with a mostly Leeds Uni crowd. We also did the Carron the day before, there's some photos of that on here somewhere too. We have been accused of taking it too far, but both were great days out.
