North Wales flooding

Postby Lowri Davies » Wed Nov 18, 2009 11:15 pm

Photos of the epic river levels and flooding in North Wales from today can be found on my blog:

http://www.lowridavies.co.uk/?p=521

If you plan to head out paddling, take care. There are high winds and more rain due, making most rivers dangerously full of debris.

Have fun, stay safe.

Gutted, I'm in Eastern Canada and the local club here are telling me too cold to paddle! It is cold mind, should have stayed home and told her the wedding would have to wait!

Have fun out there everyone and think of those less fortunate! :)

Yoinks !!

I went for a run yesterday lunchtime in the little country park on the Wirral - even the waters there had gone up by a foot and the bridge I needed to run over was submerged. Wales looks really impressive !

The Llugwy had dropped a lot this morning but a lot of rain has fallen around Capel Curig and Llanberis, so it is back up in the fields, you can't get under Jim's bridge and Pont Cyfyng is pumping huge! Nantgwryd was nice and high, but the wind was epic! The Conwy has dropped considerably and now read just 6 on the gauge.

Take care out there. More photos from today on their way...

In fairness, the boat went down a chunky grade 5 in spate, full of water and kit. I'd like to see any boat survive that unharmed!

Its been a dryish day here in Devon and we have missed the biblical portions of rain that we have seen on the News in Cumbria and Wales.

We watched someone's Tek boat run that drop unpiloted at similar level at start of Nov & it appeared to be fine, but took a big hit just before it disappeared from view downstream (nose was split open when we found it on the flat section).

Someone is having a right laugh. We drove up to Scotland last week... DRY! Nothing! Nada! Rest of the country was soaked and we had sun and frost! Now, one week later is all drenched! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Still, off to see Eddie Izzard tonight! Woop woop!
The world is unfair, but as long as it's unfair in my favour I don't mind.

Have just got home from Workington. The A66 is a mess and if levels continue to drop may be more but not fully open later today although any side road with a dip is compleatly blocked. I only managed to get back to Penrith by driving along a Forestry Commission road which is gated.

In all seriousness are any rivers in North Wales safe enough to go paddling on this weekend? I am planning to head up on Sunday and would appreciate any local knowldge of current river levels and what really is paddleable.
