We paddled the section from just below the dam to Pont Llogel yesterday. There are now 3 places (from the point about 2km upriver from Pont Llogel) where barbed wire crosses the river. The first 1 of these is single stranded and in a fairly beningn place. The second 2 are harder to spot as you are more likley to be paying attention to the water so once you have seen one keep a keen eye out.

The first 2, which are single stranded can be paddled under with care if someone gets out and lifts the wire up but the 3rd is the double stranded and we had to get out and line canoes under which was slightly impeded by the pile of wood placed handily next to the water.

We were told by some people staying at the caravan site that the farmer has put these up to stop the children from the site walking up the river but who knows the real reason

Thats a real hazard for the unsuspecting. When I'm next around there I shall see aboout 'removing' these pretty dangerous hazards!

I've noticed the EA gauge for the Vrynwy below the Dam (here) seems to rise sharply to ~0.41m then plataeus and then drop sharply again. This would therefore seem to correspond to a normal low relese.
Done any NE/NW rivers not on the site? PM me!

Paddled today. No wires. Only one badly hung fence across the river from a private metal road bridge (possibly at lat="52.72902436384046" lon="-3.4513754248619044")

The fence can be sneaked hard river right, we used one of our group to get out and hold up the fence while the rest passed under.

Vyrnwy Level

Postby mrbartlam » Mon Oct 15, 2012 1:14 pm

Hi All

Does anyone know what the level on the EA website needs to be to paddle the Vyrnwy. I know its dam release so levels change unpredictably but I'm interested to know what the level needs to be to get down it. Its on 0.43 at the moment and I wonder if after such a wet year their standard release is enough to paddle it?

Any ideas

This post says least 0.7 for a good run down from the dam:
