River Kent (Kentmere to Scroggs Bridge) Portage
We ran this section on Saturday - great fun although I believe it's not paddled that often. There is a continuous grade 3 section after the lake at the end of which the river splits around a little island. There is a tree across the right channel. Although you can just about paddle over it (or go down the left) at the level we ran it, a couple of us decided to portage this bit. Apparently there are horses kept in the field the other side of the wall on river right which are easily spooked by people carrying kayaks through the field - this seems to have happened on a couple of occasions. The owners were very pleasant but asked us to pass on the message to avoid going over the wall to portage so the horses don't panic. There is space on the river bank (I went this way), it's just a bit of a scramble through vegetation in places.

Thanks for the info! I've not paddled above Scroggs Bridge myself - what's that section like? I always thought it needed a lot of water?
If you're feeling keen UKRGB is lacking a guide for this bit of the Kent if you fancy sending one in?
Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim
I'll see if one of our leaders is happy to write a guide for this. We used the White water Lake District guide by Stuart Miller which was pretty accurate.
