Plastic Racing Boat

Postby Mont » Thu Mar 29, 2012 11:52 pm

I'm looking for a long(ish) plastic racing boat for flat water - ideally to fit an adult, so the Lightening is no good.

What do folk recommend? I've been looking at touring and sea kayaks, cost is an issue so I'm looking more at the touring end of the market. Any advice appreciated.

Cheers for now.

Reading Canoe Club have a classified section on their website which is a good place to look for secondhand race and fast touring boats and the occasional other longer kayaks. http://www.reading-canoe.org.uk/ There is a Nordkapp RM on there at the moment. The Hasler race season starts soon and there are usually boats for sale at the races.

There aren't so many long plastic kayak designs out there. Those that are weigh a ton which may detract from the enjoyment of paddling them if you need help to carry it.
I have tried the Pyranha Speeder http://www.pyranha.com/kayaks.php?kayak=Speeder which was way too big for me.
I have a Wavehopperhttp://www.perception.co.uk/product/index/products/competition_training/wavehopper/ which I use for flat water touring when I am going out with paddlers who don't use K1s. The wildwater racing website http://www.wildwater.org.uk/ would be the best place to look for a second hand one.
