Hi, Planning an overnight canoe trip down the severn from Ironbridge to Bewdley at the weekend. The water level has risen but looks lekely to fall over the next couple of days as the main heavy rainfall seems to have passed, although it's still pretty awful out there.
Any views on whether it's a good/bad idea in terms of safety? I'm a competant paddler but there will be some less experienced on the trip. My view is that it's high and fast and that's how it should be but would like another opinion!

Re: canoeing the severn
Just wondering what Jackfields is like in high water, as I have never done it when the levels are up.

I think this is a question which is very difficult to answer without knowing what you mean by ‘less experienced’. On any fast flowing river, you need to know that all of the group could paddle sufficiently well to avoid an obstacle, this may involve a fast ferry or a fast/secure break-out.
I think Jackfields washes out quite well into a big wave train.
