First C1 playboat

Hi I'm looking at getting a playboat to convert, any recommendations on what would be a good first boat.

A cheap one with a big cockpit...

Adapting to C1 will likely take you a while, so beyond a boat that's wider helping you feel more stable and a boat with very agressive edges catching you out a bit more there won't be a lot in it between boats as you begin.

Something middle of the road like a Kingpin would be a good punt (dagger boats are fairy easy to outfit as c1's too because of the welded in center rail).

Importantly, make sure your outfitting holds your knees and bum down firmly and that you have good contact on your hips (hip-pads/hip huggers are the most important and awkward bit of outfitting a playboat). Taking time to build good outfitting will have a greater impact than what boat you choose as you begin.

I converted a Space cadet, It was cheap for me, as I already had it. To me the prfile was very symmetrical so seemed a good choice. I would have thought, something like a G force would be horrible as the back as no volume in it.

Just my opinion thou....

Pretty much anything that would fit you as a kayak... I think the kingpin, space cadet and project represent particularly good boats, the Robson twintip though rarer now is also a good boat.

Whilst there is an element of truth to what webbymatt says, don't be overly worried about trying to find a well balanced boat as it's more a matter of moving your saddle position back and forward until the boat feels balanced (the problem with boats with very little volume at the back is that the saddle ends up very far forward making it more awkward to get in and out).

If you haven't already got one I would highly reccomend the Dagger Kingpin.

I am also a student and got mine in very good condition for £300 and a Double Diamond cranked Werner paddle for £165
Would highly reccomend both. Although I am just about to put some foam in the bow as a more comfortable foot rest.

Oooooh nice boat! My first C1 experience was in a session, lots of fun and easy cartwheeling.

I've been looking at straps where do people get snowboard straps from as I can't seem to find any and they look like a good method of getting a good fit especially as I don't have a bulkhead in it and want something to keep my knees stationary.

Robin Hood Watersports can usually find you what you need from their spares bin (they also sell snowboards).

If you don't have a bulkhead I'd seriously consider combineing the knee and thigh straps as is common in competion boats... I'll get a picture from my WWR boat for you.
