Kawartha ?

Hi,

These come in a package of 6 for groups so before ommiting, I was wondering if anyone has paddled them ?

'Clearwater 156 Canoes'

The versatile Clearwater 156 Kawartha design is a well proven all rounder made from super tough 3 layer rotomoulded polyethylene.

A classic design this canoe is well suited to those who want a boat that will easily paddle on flat water through to gentle moving water tandem but is also very well suited as a solo boat for all types of wter.

The Superb stability instills confidence in the users. When leaned slightly turns become easy whether paddling solo or tandem due to the moderate rocker.

The hull is of a shallow arch design for efficiency. The Clearwater 156 Kawartha is supplied as standard in super tough 3 layer rotomoulded polyethylene with black vinyl gunwales and ABS end decks. The seats are wood and web as standard and the thwart and balanced yoke are of Ash.

This construction although slightly heavier than Royalex is extremely tough and is well suited to group and centre use.

The Kawartha is light due to its low lines which make it ideal for solo or tandem paddling including group use with adultsa or juniors but other models may be more suited to expedition or heavily loaded uses.

I bought one of these 18 months ago. I find it easy to portage, paddles well on most water. I have paddled it on grade 3 . I nearly always paddle this solo. It does not have a lot of rocker though so I find I paddle with quite a lot of edge.

I do love my boat though, mines bright yellow. Easy to spot when swimming!

Hope this helps.
Paul.

Remarkably light for a plastic boat. The spec says this is due to its low profile but at 13.5'' that's not so very low; I also see it gets an extra thwart, is the shell a bit thin?

The hull is about 8 - 10mm thick. There is no flex in the bottom either which I have noticed on some Dagger canoes. Mine got pinned quite badly on rocks which took 6 people to free. I was scared it was going to snap in half. There was only a small scar when it came free, so I would say that it is a tough boat too. I think in the middle layer of the plastic, there is a foam layer which probably helps it be lightweight.

Yes, looks like foam sandwich.

Ideally I get the 6 pack, then adults and wee secondary and older primary kids can still use them.
