Postby koks » Mon Jun 07, 2010 2:07 pm

HI
I'm new in canoe world. I don't even have canoe yet. But I'm thinking about getting versetile canoe for family use / touring / fishing / sailing. which one is the best for this kind of use?
also has to be as light as possible because will go on top of the car for traveling.
also I'm looking for sailing rigs for canoe. found few on us websites. is something like this available in uk?
cheers

A canoe stable enough for 'hands off' fishing/casting, and river paddling is a bit tricky.

Yes you can get sailing rigs.

Yes I know. But I'm new in canoeing and this will be my first canoe. So a little bit everything. I did a little bit of research and allrounder are:
1. mad river explorer 15 rx
2. mad river explorer 16 rx
3. old town camper royalex
4. old town penobscot
5. prospector (various producers)
6. gatz mohawk
7. gatz orka

What are your suggestions?

The widest one is probably the most stable for fishing from.

Family use - large
Fishing - wide
Touring - narrow, long
Sailing - average
Light - Royalex or composite

I would go for a Prospector type, most of those SCR mentioned will be fine.

If you really want to do fishing and want a wider boat the OT Osprey would be a possibility but it is not suitable for the other uses.
