Outrigger for a canadian

Has anyone ever used an outrigger on a canadian for either extra stability or for use with a sail. I'm thinking of getting one for mine in the summer but am not sure if it's worth the investment. Will be using it on the sea around skye etc Also anywhere in the UK where they can be purchased???
