Whitewater solo canoe
Anyone selling a canoe really cheap? Needs to be whitewater capable with all oitfitting and not massivly long as weak.shoulder so ability to.carry is less. If there is a slit may be able to repair.

Re: Whitewater solo canoe
Whitewater as in a Specialist Whitewater boat, or Whitewater as in a trad boat that's got a bit of rocker and has been fitted with the thwarts/lash points/airbags for solo paddling on whitewater?

If you get no joy on here, try over on songofthepaddle.co.uk
- it's dedicated to canoeing with quite a lot of white water paddlers.

OK... :D
Do you mind if it looks like a traditional canoe, or is something like this fine too:

If you're looking for a boat that looks like a canoe, then I know French Erick was looking to sell his prelude not so long ago... I dunno if he still has it/still wants to sell it, but it might be worth asking him...
If you're happy to paddle something with a turret top like that picture; then Big Dog are selling the Force Turret OC1 new for about £800-900 which is not a lot more than you pay for a good condition second hand OC1, and a good £400-600 cheaper than almost any other new OC1...
Are you just looking to try OC1 or do you definately want to own one... I may be able to sort out a long term loan for you if you're just interested in trying to start with.

I like the idea of those ones in the pic, they do look different.
I'm still debating which I would prefer, atm I'm thinking more toward a canoe because I feel more stable, but want to try one on some proper moving water before committing to buying one and never using it. On flat I feel as if canoes are more stable (the big trad ones) thats compaired to my kayak, on slight moving water I like canoes but just need a chance to try them on bigger moving water.

Sam, avoid making an expensive mistake! Canoeing on whitewater is great fun whether it's OC1 or trad style.
Reading between the lines it would appear that you haven't had to much whitewater experience and if you think a kayak is tippy on the flat wait until you get either of the above on whitewater. Having said that you can have more fun in a canoe on WW at a lesser grade than you can in a kayak!
Back to the expensive mistake thing - OC1's are very specialised and quite hard to track one down and buy BUT they are even harder to sell on!!!
Take up Josh's offer and try before you buy - they are not normally an overnight experience but take time to learn to paddle correctly!
I paddle kayak, trad canoe and OC1 on whitewater and all disciplines really do help to paddle the other. Take time to learn to paddle both a kayak and canoe on the flat and when you feel comfortable push both of these to the next level, ie moving water. By the time you get here you should have a good idea of where you want to go - ie kayak or canoe. A trad canoe can be paddled on Grade 2 & 3 really successfully but after this you are definitely better off in an OC1!
Have fun deciding but certainly don't buy anything until you have really tried and liked it!

Re: Whitewater solo canoe
Hey mate, you read inbetween the lines a bit differently as I have paddled loads, and I do paddle on whitewater in a kayak, (river runner, and playboat) I just am thinking about moving over to canoe more as I prefer the idea of being in them more than I do in a kayak.
I just like using canoes more, with the paddle and everything, plus for injury reasons I'm thinking a canoe will be better for me than a kayak.
Where can you try whitewater canoeing in the North East, on grade 2-3 water, somewhere like the washburn kind of place or Hi-Low Force
Cheers Sam

Hey Sam, cool!
Ex-kayakers make good canoeists!
I'm down in the south east so not much good to you and we don't have any nearby whitewater.
Your best bet is to take up Josh's offer and try before you buy - good luck in finding your right boat!
Happy paddling!

Re: Whitewater solo canoe
I'm no longer selling my boat sorry, sorted finances and it's too much fun to get rid of.
Wouldn't be surprised 2nd hand boats become more available with all the new designs that seem to pop up these days? Surely someone will want to treat themselves to new toys?
Good luck with the chase if you haven't got one yet.

...if you're feet are going numb then you need to alter you're outfitting! I'm more comfortable in this boat than when forced into a kayak... ;-)
