GUIDE TO THE AFON CEIRW (upper section) NAME OF RIVER: Ceirw. WHERE IS IT?: North Wales (tributary of the Alwen) that parallels the A5. Map. PUT-INS/ TAKE-OUTS: The Ceirw can be paddled above the G6+ gorge, put in from bridge at 976455. APPROX LENGTH: 2.5 km. TIME NEEDED: Unknown. ACCESS SITUATION: Access situation unknown. WATER LEVEL INDICATORS: Unknown. GRADING: 2 to 3 (because of tree hazards). MAJOR HAZARDS/ FALLS: G6 Gorge at Ty-Nant. Full inspection impossible for 500m, that may drop 50m in several falls. A strand of barbed wire under first bridge to sneak under. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Take out of the river before the loop above the grade 6 gorge, to the old A5. (.) This narrow bit has a nice stable beginners wave but is virtually blocked by many nasty trees. The portage to continue the river is a long walk to below the gorge down the old A5, to a path through a field. Then you are on the main section of the river. Carrying on is recommended.
